‘Evening Haze’ - 22 x 21 cms - acrylic on canvas

My palette was so full of colour having just finished a larger canvas that this small spontaneous painting ‘Evening Haze’ just had to be a splash of colour.

I love the combination of the blue tones and the pinks in the sky and the way the detail on the horizon reflects the light in the sky.

It really does feel like the beginning of evening and twilight is about to happen, ending another day.

The use of the pinks and blues was a bit of a departure for me but it really worked.

I intentionally used large brushes (including some decorating brushes) for the sky and then still using large brushes blended the horizon and foreground using smaller brushes for detail.

‘Sunset Samba’ - 24 x 20 cms - acrylic on paper

This is definitely one of my favourites. The colours have a flow about them and almost a musical quality. I wish I could remember what music I was listening to at the time, as music can influence my mood and then the brushstrokes follow that mood.

It was very spontaneous and not deliberate at all in the use of colour.

I love the way the whole horizon is lit up as the clouds rise and the air cools leading to twilight.

‘Breaking Dawn’ - 60 x 50 cms - acrylic on stretched canvas

Just reminiscing about this painting ‘Breaking Dawn’ that was one of my first acrylics after moving over from pastels, though both mediums still had the soft blended style. It must have worked as it soon sold to a private collector.

Whilst I do use a lot of blending in my larger acrylics the medium does give the opportunity for an added touch of abstract here and there. I love the quite vivid orange and yellow on the horizon.

The sky was painted with bigger brushes and blended out with sprays of water and added layers of acrylic colour.
