My small paintings are painted in an abstract quite spontaneous style with big brushes to give lots of texture with bold brushstrokes creating freedom of movement and lots of energy. The colours are quite vivid and varied to capture atmosphere and light.

Below are various different landscapes showing the use of the bigger brushes and the occasional use of much smaller brushes for detail.

I always try and show a little part of my personality in each painting even in these very small paintings on paper and am always experimenting with brushstrokes.

It always surprises me what you can capture through the use of paint, whether it’s the blending of colours or the texture in the smallest of details capturing the light and shadow. Just adding the smallest amount of colour to another can make multitudes of different tones as well changing the mood.
