Lingering Sundown is one of my more affordable beautiful abstract paintings.

Could you imagine this painting in your interior space, adding colour and character to your room………

Lingering Sundown’

23 x 22 cm acrylic on canvas

Even though this new painting is one of my smaller works I wanted to experiment with how it might look on a larger scale and I believe it would succeed beautifully at both sizes. I often find it helpful to place a smaller painting in an interior setting to imagine how it would look at different sizes and in different rooms.

That often reveals subtle nuances and gives me a clear indication of how I might adapt the composition for a larger or smaller version.

Lingering Sundown definitely leans more toward abstract rather than impressionism but it still contains the impressionist sensitivity present in my work, as I am not a realistic artist. What I aim to capture is often an inner feeling with the atmosphere of a particular quality of light. From there the colours, marks and brushstrokes evolve organically as I work as the art gradually takes on its own journey and character.

I find smaller paintings especially therapeutic when I’m wrestling with much larger canvases as I am at the moment. My current challenge with the larger works is finding ways to make each one distinctly different with an emotional feeling nevertheless.

I’ve put most of the colour into this painting on the horizon with the bright orange, the delicate flecks of white and the blended red tones that rise gently into the sky, creating depth and movement.
