North Downs, always an inspiration to paint anytime of the year.
Looking out for miles over the most gorgeous of English countryside………inspiration at it’s best!
‘Dew on the Downs’ was painted in memory of my late father, who loved the North Downs, especially Colley Hill. I love the way you can see for miles, where the land gently recedes and becomes slightly blurred into the morning sky, creating shimmering blue tones that feel both spacious but inviting.
That cool blue tinge to the landscape sits in subtle contrast with the paler reflections cast by the drifting clouds.
Acrylic on canvas - 27 x 20 cms
At this time of year, as Winter approaches a distant Spring the clouds seem to sweep softly across the landscape in the bright, crisp air. Despite that movement and chill this painting remains calm and welcoming capturing a time of day my father would have loved.
I enjoyed the understated blending and intentional brushstrokes which together create a real atmosphere of the Downs at this time of year.
