My new beautiful but cold landscape painting: Snow in the sky

‘Snow in the sky’

Acrylic on canvas - 26.5 x 26.5 cms

This painting is quite different for me. It’s very simplistic with abstract brushstrokes, but purposefully so. I deliberately chose a minimalist colour palette for this piece in an effort to portray the impression of a cold, wintry landscape.

The tones I selected were intended to evoke the crisp, dry atmosphere you might experience on a chilly day. My aim was to capture the subtle play of light on the scene, rather than the usual warm tones and glow found in sunsets or sunrises.

For those familiar with my typical subject matter, this represents a clear departure and offers a fresh perspective to my work.

I love the subtle glimmer of blue on the distant horizon and in the expansive sky, complemented by the delicate fleck of cream that adds softness to the atmosphere. The impression of the clouds drifting gently enhances the overall sense of depth and tranquility.

That single brushstroke of lighter green in the foreground stands out as the primary variation in the whole tonal range, apart from a small understated stroke of yellow that adds just a hint of warmth.
