This painting beautifully blends abstract dynamic brushstrokes with impressionist evocative landscape technique creating a unique and compelling visual image that captures emotion and atmosphere.

‘Ochre Sunset’

This painting entitled ‘Ochre Sunset’ remains one of my absolute favourite abstract pieces to date. It came together very naturally and effortlessly without the extended ‘journey’ or struggle that some of my other paintings often undergo.

I found myself genuinely enjoying the process of experimenting with a slightly different colour palette this time around, focusing on warm pinks and rich ochres that ultimately inspired the title.

The small yet vivid details of red, yellow, orange and white scattered along the horizon provide a compelling focal point that effectively draws and holds the viewer's eye. The bold, sweeping brushstrokes of pink above the horizon act as a final flourish bringing both energy and balance to the overall composition.

The ochre tones in the sky were carefully blended and layered to create a strong sense of depth and warmth, whilst the addition of pink seamlessly pulls the entire piece together in a harmonious way.

Though the foreground remains quite dark and shadowy there are delicate strokes of grey mistily descending from the sky with soft pink hues blending both the sky and the land together.

Flecks of white subtly suggest a gentle, almost ethereal glow on the distant horizon as the evening light begins to fade slowly and disappear into the coming night.

Individually each colour on the palette might not seem to harmonise perfectly at first glance, but when viewed as a whole they come together harmoniously in the composition.
