Three paintings capturing the essence and beauty of the South Downs.

Which of these beautiful landscapes is your favourite?

These three paintings were inspired by the beautiful South Downs, a place that has always been a favourite source of inspiration. The skies there are vast and ever changing, offering amazing views that vary with the seasons and the time of day. Each moment brings different light, shadows and a wide range of subtle tones that continually influence my paintings whether on canvas or paper.

These three convey the sense of vastness in the landscape that I try to capture in my abstract and impressionist style and are more softly blended which enhances their impressionistic quality. I feel each one has its own distinct personality and presence.

Seeing them all together really helps me to appreciate the overall effect and to understand how each painting connects to the others, and it also allows me to decide what might be the next painting in the series. I love all the beautiful tones captured in the sky and the way the light reflects down into the landscape below, creating gorgeous, nuanced shadows and a subtle sense of depth and atmosphere.

You can explore all my paintings on my portfolio page, where I’m sure you’ll find a piece that resonates with you and would sit beautifully in your space.
