Today’s landscape painting is ‘Sunset Sea’ and it’s available on my website on the Affordable Art page.

I always seem to come back to this one and look at it again and again as the abstract quality is really something I like with the washes of colour and bold brushstrokes.

Looking back I particularly like the confident brushstrokes of blue and pink. There are very few detailed brushstrokes on the horizon but that makes it all the more effective and gives that impression of an early sunset. The lighter blues and greens give the impression of light and the stroke of white I think pulls the whole painting together.

I forget how much I like painting on paper as it can be quite a difficult surface to paint on as it dries so quickly. You have to be confident and deliberate with your brushstrokes.

I like seeing how adding water to the the acrylic paint changes the effect depending how much you add, and then seeing what brushstrokes stay and which seem to disappear leaving hardly any trace.
