Transform your space with this calming abstract painting: ‘Swirling Clouds’

Swirling Clouds framed in interior office setting by Mary Burtenshaw

‘Swirling Clouds’ - 26 × 25.5 cms - Acrylic on paper

What size would be perfect for your space, let me know?

Even though this abstract painting is from my archive it’s still one that I come back to take inspiration, partly for it’s movement and fluidity of brushstrokes and partly for the spontaneous use of touches of colour.

The reflections from the sky shine down to the foreground with the use of greens and turquoise and the flecks of orange and white. There are different layers that make up the sky topped with brushstrokes of cream giving the impression of lighter clouds within the touches of lighter blue.

I’ve always loved the large brushstrokes of blue and white on the horizon giving the impression of calm on a cloudy day, in one moment in time.

I’m always drawn to how the light falls at different times of the day and the unique colours in both the sky and on the landscape below and this more abstract landscape painting really captures that with the shadows that form and fall from the light in the sky and the movement of the ever evolving colour.

This painting is spontaneous as its on paper and I had to be quite quick and deliberate with the use of colour as the paint dries so quickly. It’s easy to make mistakes though sometimes the mistakes can be a pleasant surprise as the way water reacts with the paint in a mind of it’s own.

There’s a lovely stillness which would be ideal for any interior setting.

A beautiful day with light emerging through the clouds and swirling clouds creating shadows on the landscape below
