A stunning impressionist landscape painting capturing that everlasting sunset…..

‘Sunset Cadenza’ - 76 × 50 cms - Acrylic on stretched canvas

This impressionist landscape painting is one of my favourite sizes to paint especially when I’m working on a sky like this one which is made up of so many layers. I feel like my personality is really in this painting.

It still has a slight abstract feel which most of my larger impressionist paintings have. You can see this in the brushstrokes of yellow, orange and white on the horizon and the touches of red. The majority of this painting apart from those little abstract brushstrokes is in my blended style which is washes of colour using a spray bottle as I like the under layers to show through. However, you can see by the deep orange, pale pink, off white and even the slight purposely blue layer peeping through it is more impressionist.

The moving vibrant glow from all the colours on the horizon gives the impression of one of those beautiful hot sunny days where the sunset takes ages to evolve as the colours dance back and fourth across the horizon, until then it finally disappears. All the gorgeous colours make it one of those unforgettable ends to the day.

I used a lot of blending with larger brushes to re-create that mood with light and shadow in the colour.

It’s still an inspiration to me as I recall painting those gorgeous sky tones whilst listening to music.

I hope you look at it and remember a beautiful sunset and it draws you back to that moment.
