Impressionist painting with blended tones and soft subtler brushstrokes.

‘Whispering Dawn’

The sun tipped onto the horizon breaking the night shadows with a piercing light that gently pushed soft pink clouds up into the early morning sky.

I painted this after waking very early one morning and watching how quietly the dawn evolved, each subtle shift in colour interpreted in the brushstrokes.

It’s a 76 x 50 cm stretched canvas featuring softer brushwork and gently blended colours that evoke the hush and serene stillness of the break of day.

My larger canvases are predominantly impressionist and are created by building up multiple layers of paint, blending tones with soft, subtle brushstrokes to shape light and shadow and using an understated amount of texture for depth and atmosphere.

The sky is made up of many different layered tones created with huge brushes and gentle sprays of water, and then very slowly it all begins to come to life.

I concentrated on the focal point along the horizon where the sun was rising and the warm air was gently lifting the clouds.
