This stunning impressionist painting showing the beauty of the evening light.

‘Twilight Ebb’

60 x 60 cms - Acrylic on stretched canvas

I painted this during the summer months when we were fortunate to have some good weather. It initially had many bold brushstrokes which I later softened and blended out to achieve a more subtle, atmospheric feel.

The evening was hot and sultry and the sun seemed to just hang in the air, very slowly slipping down towards the horizon.

Just at the moment it tipped beyond, the last of the sun’s orb blended with a beautiful orange glow on the skyline. The pink clouds rose up into the soft blues and greys of the sky whilst the landscape below melted away and became almost entirely immersed in shadow.

Larger and more confident brushstrokes achieved all the blending I needed to create the soft textures of the scene and the gentle cadence of the sunset colours, with just a little extra texture worked subtly into the horizon shadows.
