Just reminiscing about this painting: Breaking Dawn
‘Breaking Dawn’ is a stunning impressionist landscape capturing the essence of light and colour on the landscape
I have been reminiscing about this painting ‘Breaking Dawn’ which was one of my first acrylics after switching over from pastels, although both mediums still retain that soft, blended style I love. It clearly resonated, because it soon found a home with a private collector.
Whilst I do use a lot of blending in my larger acrylics, the medium also provides the opportunity to introduce subtle touches of abstract here and there. I particularly love the bright vivid orange and warm yellow on the horizon which adds a lively contrast and a sense of glowing depth to the composition.
The sky was painted with bigger brushes gently blending out with sprays of water and finishing with added layers of acrylic colour for depth and luminosity.
A certain amount of careful experimentation introduced a wider range of tonal differences creating a distinctly impressionist feel particularly in the foreground suggesting shrubs, bushes and trees rather than rendering them in exact detail.
I like the purple and orange colours meeting the soft blue and muted grey tones, bringing in that first delicate glimmer of daybreak.
The ‘pop’ of bright green and yellow on the horizon reflects that early morning light casting a fresh, energised glow across the scene.
Such a gorgeous, luminous sky, enough to take your breath away.
