Sunlit Breath the ideal painting for that small space.

My larger paintings on canvas and paper capture the mood of a place ‘in that one moment in time’ conveying a fleeting atmosphere and emotional feel.

The inspiration comes from nature but the interpretation is guided by my own feelings and a personal response to the mood, colour and sense of space in the light.

I then use brushstrokes to create movement and atmosphere, building and refining the texture of the painting which varies considerably between canvas and paper.

Sunlit Breath’ is acrylic on canvas at 27.5 x 25.5 cms.

The larger but fewer brushstrokes convey the movement on the sunlit horizon with an economic but bold style. Sometimes all it takes is a few deft strokes of colour to emulate the shifting effect of light in the sky whilst the wisps of clouds remain deliberately impressionistic.

It is an interpretation as much for me, a record of a moment felt, as it is for you the viewer invited to complete the scene with your own memories and imagination.

Sometimes, the more colours I use and the more varied the brushstrokes, the better I can capture the sense of space unfolding within the interplay of shadow and light.
