My new little abstract landscape painting: Into the clouds

‘Into the clouds’ is one of my smaller, spontaneous landscape paintings. I loved creating it because the process felt free and effortless. It was especially helpful for shaking off a creative rut and clearing my head when in the middle of completing a larger canvas.

I also love how there isn’t too much happening in the sky yet it still conveys a sense of openness and the impression of a vast, unfolding landscape.

In this painting there are broader sweeps of colour and looser brushstrokes, so it is a much more abstract piece compared with many of my more recent works, which have tended to have more detail as you can see on my new paintings page.

I’ve shown it here in three different interior settings because I find it helpful to see how it looks in varied contexts before deciding if it’s truly finished. Viewing it framed and on the wall gives me a clearer sense of the work, and you can appreciate seeing how it might look in that space in your home or office.
