My new spring series of landscape paintings
My new Spring series of paintings on canvas is inspired by the delicate, shifting light in the landscape at this time of year. I focus on colour, texture and the movement of light and shadow exploring how subtle changes define mood and atmosphere.
As the evenings grow longer and the fresh colours of Spring begin to emerge I have felt inspired to create this new series of paintings drawing on the season’s subtle light, renewed energy and delicate palette.
I replicate energy through expressive brushstrokes subtlety recreating the sense of atmosphere found in the shadows along the horizon and in the ever shifting, changing light of the sky.
These contemporary impressionist and abstract landscapes blend bold colour and textured brushwork to evoke the shifting moods of coast and countryside. Layered washes of colour combine with spontaneous brushstrokes to create an abundance of light and shadow that suggests form and distance rather than literal detail.
Hints of coastline, distant hills and reflective water emerge from compositions built on a restrained palette with the use of muted greys, soft ochres and intervals of colour that give each piece a quiet, contemplative atmosphere. All are painted on canvas in acrylic with each painting having a unique evocative balance, spontaneity and structure.
