New painting: Mist on the Downs

Part of a series of paintings inspired by the South and North Downs.

‘Mist on the Downs’

Here’s another painting to add to my ongoing series of ‘Light on the Downs,’ inspired by the serene beauty of the South and North Downs. I have a special fondness for these landscapes, having grown up near the South Downs, while the North Downs holds a special place in my heart as one of my Father’s favourite spots and a location my Grandfather often chose to capture on canvas.

This particular painting is especially meaningful to me as it marks my first creative small work since my Mum passed away last month. I wanted to create something comforting and familiar reflecting a sense of peace. This artwork features a much more blended technique than usual with subtle highlights and delicate touches of colour appearing on the distant horizon.

It evokes the crisp, misty days typical of this season with the soft glow of the setting sun casting a gentle light across the scene. To me it carries a calm and soothing atmosphere that would complement any interior space beautifully.

For those seeking a more dramatic effect, there is an alternative image below, which would work wonderfully as a large-scale print to create a striking visual statement.

You can explore a wider range of paintings in various sizes and styles on my portfolio page here.

If you have any questions or need further information, I would be more than happy to hear from you.
