Sunlight breaking through the clouds: Sunlit Lustre

Impressionistic, soft and with a delicate and subtle refined touch and a gentle nuance that invites emotion……

‘Sunlit Lustre’ is a 40 x 40 cm acrylic on canvas with a softer, more impressionist style and generous blending, especially across the sky. I particularly like the delicate touches of pink and peachy tones along the horizon and the way the light drifts upward into the clouds and open sky.

The subtle greys and varied blues add a sense of depth and atmosphere, gently enhancing the impression of sunlight breaking through. I think this is one of my favourite skies because it conveys a beautiful sense of the day and its light. It’s warm, yet retains a pleasing variation in tone with enough soft grey to keep it restrained and not overpowering, whilst the warmer peach tones lift the composition and invite an emotional response.

This painting definitely evolved and enjoyed several mini lives along the way before finally shining into ‘Sunlit Lustre’.

Each of my paintings seems to develop its own final personality. Some reveal their radiance straight away whilst others require time, reflection and a fresh spark of inspiration before I know they are truly finished.

“That brief moment in time when the setting sun and descent into twilight become one.”
