The beauty of this impressionist painting: Haunting Shadows

60 x 60 cms - Acrylic on stretched canvas

It’s always been quite strange to me that some paintings were always so hit and miss as to whether people liked them or not. I guess this one was a lot more subtle than many of my impressionist canvases without my usual focal point on the horizon. Yes you could say it was a slight diversion from I usually do but as an artist you have to push yourself or maybe not even push yourself but just be spontaneous and see what develops from a few strokes of colour and what journey it will take this time.

In ‘Haunting Shadows’ I love the change in colour palette and the subtle use of colour and brushstrokes, still blended but simpler and scaled down to the bare minimum. I’ve always felt it still gives enough atmosphere and there’s a definite beauty about this one and really fits the title. I guess you could argue that the title puts people off but if you go that route then it could be anything as that is the beauty of nature plus fact that every painting is different and what one individual likes another might not.

It’s always interesting for me to put my paintings in an interior settings it really helps me decide whether a painting is finished and enable me to actually take it off the easel and stop!
