Today’s acrylic landscape painting is: Dawn Awakening

Could this be the perfect painting that would fit in that space you have?

This painting ‘Dawn Awakening’ is painted on paper with quite a limited colour palette and minimal brushstrokes. Painting on paper meant I had to be quite quick as the paint dries so quickly and the brushstrokes that you use have to count in an obvious way, some being quite deliberate.

It’s quite a moody and atmospheric painting especially in the sky, with the darker blue tones blended with the red tones and the touches of peach glowing through.

This painting could definitely be worked up to a larger canvas which I might end up trying quite soon as the colour palette is quite different from my recent larger paintings. I have been consciously trying different colour palettes and hoping I don’t somehow always come back to my favourite colours.

There’s lovely touches in this painting with the stroke of ‘naples yellow’ in the sky which is quite bold and the even more broader brushstroke of the same colour just above the horizon which I feel pulls the painting together to show that it was early morning and the day was about to properly show itself.

The brighter green and ochre touches in the foreground just give enough light and a definite glow to the horizon.
