Today’s landscape painting is Windswept Dawn

This would be a perfect size for any space

This painting is definitely more moody especially in the sky and therefore a little different than a lot of my smaller paintings, as they tend to be vivid in colour. In this painting the movement in the sky gives all the atmosphere with just a few flecks of white to give the impression of the light poking behind the clouds.

The lighter blue strokes of paint on the horizon provide just the right amount of light, gently pulling both the sky and foreground together in perfect harmony. It’s gorgeously dark and rich, with all the intricate texture in the foreground adding depth and character to the composition.

Even though this painting measures only 24 x 24 cms, it’s always helpful and quite enjoyable to see the image in a larger format. Viewing it bigger allows me to consider whether it might work well as a larger painting or a print, offering new perspectives and possibilities. It also usually signals to me that the piece is truly finished.

For those familiar with me and my work, they will understand that it is often quite difficult for me to actually put the paintbrush down and declare a painting complete.

You can see here the painting actual size. Which would you prefer the one a above or this painting?

You can see the windswept clouds with my smaller canvas paintings and i am always using different techniques and different directions of brushstrokes.

Though the foreground is moody and dark I purposely only added glimmers of light.

It would suit any space as the colours are quite subtle.
