Which small painting on paper is perfect for you and your space?

I often like to paint small studies on paper as it’s spontaneous and leads to an energy and flow in the painting. Sometimes I will then use that study to start a much larger painting to challenge my creativity.

The colour is always very varied probably more so than any other size of painting because they are so spontaneous and it allows me to think ‘any thing goes’. In that way there is a freedom in the use of colour and not being so precious about what colours should be where in a landscape I just put the paint down.

It’s quite liberating because you can accentuate the light, colour, shadows and atmosphere in the use of the brushstrokes and use of different tones.

The small studies have a freedom in the brushstrokes and colour I use, so if a larger painting hits a creative block I inspire myself with some smaller ‘free’ studies.
