How different can three beautiful sunset paintings be?

Which one would suit your space the best?

All very different but totally individual.

‘Ochre Skies’ - 23 x 21 cms - Acrylic on canvas

This painting ‘Ochre Skies’ is part of my latest collection and can be seen on my ‘New Paintings’ page.

The series studies the light of sunrises and sunsets at this time of year with their beautiful colours especially seen in this painting with the pink and the slight glimmer of blue sky peeping through.

I really enjoyed painting this and using a lot of colours that would not normally blend together but I really think they do, resulting in the the title of ‘Ochre Skies’.

The sky has a lovely glow with the use of orange and pinks and of course ochre. The smaller touches of yellow and red on the horizon give detail and movement.

The misty greens and greys on either side of the horizon blend into the colours of the sky and pull the painting together creating low light as evening begins.

Sunset Wisp’ - 23.5 × 23.5 cms - Acrylic on canvas

This painting ‘Sunset Wisp’ was inspired by a brief moment when the sun shone through the breeze blown clouds just temporarily brightening the sky.

The blended sky with very few brushstrokes gave just the right amount of light and atmosphere. The blending of the sky was just a few colours, grey, ochre, burnt umber and a little touch of white.

The foreground was just a few colours too including one of my favourites, hooker’s green deep hue which with just a touch gives great shadows on the landscape.

Hazy Sunset’ - 26 × 26 cm - Acrylic on paper

‘Hazy Sunset’ is the next landscape painting I have chosen for today. It has a lot of gorgeous orangey brown tones set at that misty time of year when the days are beginning to get a little cooler.

It is a painting from my archive but it is also one I refer to often as I always loved the colours and the bolder brushstrokes.

I love the touches of peachy orange tones and red brushstrokes on the horizon and the peach tones in the sky which pull the painting together.

The ochres and browns and burgundy in the sky give just the right atmosphere for a hazy sunset. There is just enough glow and light on the horizon with the dark, almost black shadows in the distance.
