Explore the beauty of this new landscape painting: Lingering Sundown

Can you imagine this beautiful sunset painting in your space?

This new painting, ‘Lingering Sundown,’ measures just 21 x 20 cms, yet it remains undeniably beautiful in its own right. It captures the delicate, soft colours of an early sunset, where gentle hues begin to peek through the clouds and emerge subtly on the horizon. This moment reveals the day’s quiet end and the gradual approach of nighttime. I’ve always appreciated how the blue sky seems to linger, holding on for as long as possible, shimmering with various rich and calming blue tones.

This painting adopts a quite simple approach, with most of the detail focused exclusively on the horizon. I used a smaller brush here to carefully apply vivid oranges and reds, which really bring that area to life. Despite its simplicity, I believe it still evokes a lovely atmosphere and offers a unique impression of the early evening light, capturing its gentle softness.

For the sky, I chose a considerably larger brush to create a smoothly blended effect, similar to what I often achieve in my larger canvases. In those works, the sky is richly blended to provide a subtle, atmospheric background that gently supports the overall composition, allowing the detailed horizon to serve as the main focal point.

As I quite often do, I placed the finished painting into an interior setting, and this time I went ahead to imagine what it would look like much bigger—as a potential larger painting and possibly as a large-scale print. It’s always fascinating to see my paintings in an interior environment, especially when presented with a mount and a frame, as this truly reveals whether the piece feels complete and, in some way, helps me finalise the work from an artistic perspective.
