Just finished this new impressionist landscape painting.

Daybreak Shadows - 76 x 50 cms - Acrylic on stretched (deep) canvas.

I’m always a little apprehensive about actually saying a painting is finished so I often place the image in an interior setting so that it really helps me see that it’s truly complete.

My large stretched canvas acrylic landscape paintings are primarily impressionist though I frequently introduce the occasional abstract touch to enrich the composition. I use continual brushstrokes and layered paint to build up light, colour, shadow and texture, carefully evoking the atmosphere and presence of the landscape.

That vast sense of space and the subtly shifting mood of the scenery as it changes through different times of day continually inspires and reflects in my work.

I do feel this painting has just the right amount of impressionism, texture, atmosphere and light. I really enjoyed painting this and getting fully immersed in the creativity.

It has a strong sense of movement in the sky with the gorgeous peachy tones rising and blending into the blue and grey and just that faint glimmer of the day still lingering.

There are many layers involved in the painting process starting with broad strokes made with large DIY brushes and then refining using smaller brushes to add delicate detail, texture and richer colour.

It would make quite a striking statement on the right wall, drawing the eye and setting the tone for the whole room.
