Sunlight breaking through the clouds: Sunlit Lustre
Each of my paintings seems to develop its own final personality. Some reveal their radiance straight away whilst others require time, some quiet reflection and a fresh spark of inspiration before I know they are truly finished.
So it is sometimes a quick journey but more often a slow but satisfying one.

A gentle drama between atmosphere and the light and colour of the setting sun.

New painting ‘Shadow's Breath’, a small acrylic on canvas using layered brushstrokes to create shadows in the sky and foreground with a spontaneous and quicker use of the brush to create energy and movement.

New landscape painting ‘Spellbound Evening’, acrylic on stretched canvas (80 x 60 cms). I like the way the light strikes the landscape and reflects into the late afternoon sky creating shadows in the foreground.
New ‘Autumn Twilight’ series on wood and canvas
New ‘Autumn Twilight’ series on wood and canvas. I painted these after the recent hot spell gave way to the rush of darker and cooler evenings and spells of rain that ushered in Autumn.
Spellbound Evening by Mary Burtenshaw
An impressionist landscape painting entitled ‘Spellbound Evening’ based on a recent sunset. it was unforgettable how slowly the sunset arrived but also how slowly how it hung in the sky for a couple of hours……just mesmerising.
