Today’s landscape painting is: Radiant Clouds

I’ve always loved the way clouds seem to dance across the sky with flecks of white light and all the gorgeous, different blue tones. Even though the sky dominates most of the painting it has a calm feeling with diffused light.

Bolder abstract brushstrokes on the horizon add texture without breaking the calm. A single darker brushstroke suggesting a hedge or path leads the eye left to right giving balance and quiet movement.

Radiant Clouds

30 x 30 cms - Acrylic on stretched canvas

A muted horizon stretches across the canvas where soft bands of pale ochre and warm grey meet a cool, misty sky. The composition is horizontal and restrained evoking a distant landscape seen through an early morning haze.

Broad brushstrokes create a textured foreground of earthy umber and muted green suggesting rough ground or heather, while thinner translucent layers above hint at never ending fields.

Overall, the painting feels restrained. The palette is predominantly neutral with warm undertones, the brushwork a mix of confident broad strokes and delicate layers. I often feel that capturing the atmosphere of the landscape and a memory and mood are more important than precise detail.
