Silent Dawn is one of my more impressionist paintings and is from my latest collection of paintings inspired by the seasonal light and the colour, shadows and texture of the landscape at this beautiful time of the year.

It was recently in an exhibition and didn’t find it’s forever home so it’s still available and can be seen both on ‘The Last Supper Gallery’ website and on my own website here. I’m always drawn to how the light falls at different times of the day and the unique colours in both the sky and on the landscape below and this impressionist sunrise painting really captures that.

My passion when capturing that perfect sunrise in that fleeting moment in time is creating the shadows that form and fall from the light in the sky and the movement of the ever evolving colour.

This painting has a lot of blending though there’s always a touch of abstract even in my larger canvases. I used a lot of layers and blended brushstrokes to build up the depth and atmosphere in the sky focusing on the light, colour, shadows and texture to recreate the ethereal and evocative feel of a sunrise. I painted with very large brushes using a lot of blending then adding sprays of water and some abstract detail on the horizon. I love how the warmer tones are shining through the sky and the light falls on to the landscape below and gives the impression of early morning. This painting has a very calming and peaceful feel to it.
