The inspiration behind this landscape painting
My large stretched canvas acrylic landscape paintings are primarily impressionist though I frequently introduce the occasional abstract touch to enrich the composition. I use continual brushstrokes and layered paint to build up light, colour, shadow and texture, carefully evoking the atmosphere and presence of the landscape.
That vast sense of space and the subtly shifting mood of the scenery as it changes through different times of day continually inspires and reflects in my work.
I’m always a little apprehensive about actually saying an atmospheric landscape painting is finished so I often place the image in an interior setting so that it really helps me see that it’s truly complete.
