Small paper paintings really relax me, especially between or after painting larger canvases. I enjoy the spontaneous use of colour, the freedom of the brushstrokes and experimentation and following unexpected twists and turns in textures. I often use oversized brushes even for the small scale of the size of the painting which creates a loose but really effective result.

I often paint a series of smaller works to gather ideas and remain spontaneous and on this occasion I was exploring shifting seasonal light and the subtle reflections it casts across the landscape.
