Today’s landscape painting is: Dorset Vista
This new painting was my inspired by my recent trip to Dorset with its vast vistas and views that go on for miles and miles. It’s actually quite minimalist compared to a lot of my usual smaller paintings but I just felt it worked.

Clouds are a fascinating subject, because the scenes are constantly evolving and changing every second. You can look down at your sketchbook and try to paint what you’re seeing, then glance back up to find it changed, so you must either start again or continually adapt over and over.

My new little abstract landscape painting: Into the clouds
In this painting there are broader sweeps of colour and looser brushstrokes, so it is a much more abstract piece compared with many of my more recent works, conveying a more free and expressive mood, and allowing forms to suggest rather than define the landscape.

Discover your next favourite small landscape painting.
Small paper paintings really relax me, especially between or after painting larger canvases. I enjoy the spontaneous use of colour, the freedom of the brushstrokes and experimentation and following unexpected twists and turns in textures. I often use oversized brushes even for the small scale of the size of the painting which creates a loose but really effective result.
New painting: Sunrise Ascent
This new painting was inspired by some of the recent winter sunrises we’ve been having when soft morning hues and the light ascends gently over the landscape, casting a calm, luminous glow across the fields and distant trees.
It’s a very calming painting and would suit any interior space………
This painting was inspired by the North Downs, Surrey
This small study was inspired by the North Downs in Surrey, created as a spark of inspiration for a larger canvas. I often paint a series of smaller works to gather ideas and remain spontaneous and on this occasion I was exploring shifting seasonal light and the subtle reflections it casts across the landscape.

‘Sunlit Lustre’, ‘Ochre Sunset’ and ‘Gilded Sunset’ show the brief moments when the day's last light fades, giving way to the mesmerising colours and deep shadows of a sunset.
